Short Bio

Christophe Garcia received his PhD degree in computer vision from the University of Lyon I, France, in 1994 and his Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) from Insa Lyon / University of Lyon I, in 2009. He has been involved in various computer vision research projects during his stay of two years at the IBM Vision Automation Group, France, and one year at the Computer Vision Center of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. As a fellow of the European Consortium in Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM), he spent one year at the German National Research Center (now Fraunhofer Institute), working toward the development of autonomous and multiagents robots. From 1997 to 2000, he was a researcher at the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), Greece, where he was involved in several advanced EU projects in the field of video and image analysis. From 2000 to 2002, he was a visiting Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete, Greece, where he was teaching Artificial Neural Networks and Pattern Recognition. In 2003, he spent 10 months at IRISA-INRIA, Rennes, France, working in the field of automatic video structuring and indexing.

In december 2003, Dr. Garcia joined France Telecom R&D / Orange Labs, where he is Fellow Expert Researcher in Pattern Recognition, Neural Networks and Image Indexing and manager of the Multimedia Content Analysis Techynologies group. He is senior member of the "Société de l'Electricité, de l'Electronique et des Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication" (SEE).

His current technical and research activities are in the areas of neural networks, pattern recognition, image and video indexing, and computer vision.

He holds 17 industrial patents and has published more than 90 articles in international conferences and journals. He has served in more than 30 program committees of international conferences and is an active reviewers in 15 international journals where he co-organized several special issues. He is currently associate editor of Int. Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (Elsevier), Image and Video Processing (Hindawi), Pattern Analysis and Application (Springer-Verlag) and Pattern Recognition (Elsevier).

Since December 2003, I am working at France Telecom division Research as a

Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Fellow Expert, Scientific leader for Image and Video Indexing Activities, Co-manager of the "Capture and Interpretation Technologies" research domain
